Why do HVAC contractors look for an alternative to ZipRecruiter?

ZipRecruiter gives new employers a free trial, and you only pay if you keep the job post active after the trial ends.

After that it sells monthly subscription plans with customizable job slots and pay-per-day options, plus add-ons such as Resume Database access and job boosting.

Its plan prices were not readable on the plans page when we checked, so comparing cost against another board is harder than reading a published number.

The pitch is reach: ZipRecruiter says it distributes a job post to 100+ job sites and actively invites qualified candidates to apply, and unlimited clicks and applies are included in its standard rate, with no click- or application-based charges.

For a shop that hires across many kinds of roles and wants distribution handled, that is a real offer, not a weak one.

An alternative is worth a look if you want one of three things: a one-time cost with no recurring charge, a board where every listing sits next to HVAC and plumbing jobs rather than every kind of job, or a price you can read before talking to anyone.

The five alternatives below split along exactly those lines.

Is HVAC Hires a good ZipRecruiter alternative for HVAC and plumbing?

HVAC Hires is a job board built only for HVAC and plumbing jobs — 29 role categories from HVAC helper and apprentice through journeyman and master plumber, controls techs and pipefitters, plus the dispatcher, estimator and manager roles around them.

Every listing on the site competes for attention only with other HVAC and plumbing jobs.

The pricing model is the opposite of a subscription-first board.

A Standard listing costs $199 at launch pricing (regular $299) and runs for 30 days; a Featured listing costs $399 (regular $499) and adds your logo, a highlighted card, top-of-feed placement and a Featured badge.

Each listing is a one-time payment: no recurring charge, no auto-renewal and no contract.

If you are always hiring, subscriptions start at $899 a month for 10 live listings and $1,749 a month for 25, billed monthly and cancelable anytime.

The trade-offs are stated plainly on the pricing page: there is no free posting tier, a listing goes live as soon as checkout completes, and candidates who click Apply are sent directly to your own application link.

HVAC Hires is not a staffing or recruiting agency, does not vouch for candidates and does not guarantee that a listing results in a hire, and it publishes no candidate or reach counts.

If that trade-only, flat-fee model matches how you hire, post a job.

What do iHireConstruction and BlueRecruit offer trade employers?

iHireConstruction is the construction-industry board of the iHire network, and it publishes its slot prices.

One Job Slot costs $369 a month, three slots cost $450 a month and ten cost $799 a month, with lower per-month rates on quarterly terms ($316, $405 and $733).

Slots are built to be swapped — change the job in a slot as your hiring needs change — and iHire says you can upgrade, downgrade or cancel at any time, with no long-term commitment.

Jobs are promoted across the iHire network and partner sites such as Google, Indeed and JobGet, and iHire also quotes custom slot solutions by phone.

BlueRecruit describes itself as a job platform built for the trades, covering 18 trade industries including construction, energy and manufacturing.

It is always free for job seekers and small businesses; for larger businesses and growing teams, plans start at $300 a month.

That makes it a genuinely free starting point for a small shop, though its coverage is the skilled trades broadly rather than HVAC and plumbing specifically.

Can you post HVAC jobs free on Indeed or through ACCA?

Indeed says many jobs can be posted for free, subject to its terms, conditions, quality standards and usage limits.

The paid side is Sponsored Jobs, billed on job seeker interactions: your invoice reflects what you spent on clicks or started applications, and Indeed bills you on the first day of the month or when account spending reaches $500, whichever comes first.

Applicants arrive from a general site, so you screen against every other industry.

ACCA + CareerPlug is a member benefit rather than a standalone board.

ACCA members get a free basic CareerPlug account with a branded careers page, pre-built job templates and a configured hiring process.

Upgrading to CareerPlug Pro at the partnership rate of $595 a year buys unlimited postings to job boards including Indeed, ZipRecruiter, Google Jobs and Facebook Jobs, plus personality assessments — the rate covers the first location, with additional fees for additional locations.

If you are already an ACCA member, one flat annual rate puts your openings on ZipRecruiter and Indeed at the same time.

What does each ZipRecruiter alternative cost?

On a published-price basis: HVAC Hires is $199 per 30-day listing, or $399 Featured, at launch pricing and as a one-time payment; iHireConstruction's slots run $369 a month for one and up to $799 for ten, less on quarterly terms; BlueRecruit is free for small businesses and starts at $300 a month for larger teams; and an ACCA member's CareerPlug Pro upgrade is $595 a year for unlimited postings from one location.

Indeed's free posts cost nothing until you turn on sponsorship; from there, billing follows interactions, with invoices issued at the start of the month or when account spending reaches $500.

ZipRecruiter's prices are the hardest to read here: the trial is free, and the subscription plans, job slots and add-ons are priced after it, with no plan prices readable on the plans page when we checked.

On a monthly plan, cancel or downgrade once the role fills (iHire allows either at any time); a one-time listing simply ends after its 30 days, with no auto-renewal.

How do you choose — and when should you stay on ZipRecruiter?

Match the board to how you hire.

A few hires a year, HVAC or plumbing only: a one-time $199 listing on HVAC Hires at launch pricing.

Construction-wide reach instead: iHireConstruction's single Job Slot at $369 a month.

Always hiring, multiple openings: the subscription economics flip, and iHire's ten-slot tier at $799 a month, or an HVAC Hires subscription at $899 for 10 live listings or $1,749 for 25, starts to work out per-listing.

Already an ACCA member: start with the free CareerPlug account before you pay anyone.

Stay on ZipRecruiter if the model already works for you: one post distributed to 100+ job sites, active invitations to matched candidates, unlimited clicks and applies, and customizable job slots when you run more than one opening.

That general, wide-funnel reach is what an HVAC-and-plumbing-only board gives up: if your openings include non-trade roles, HVAC Hires does not carry them.

Whichever way you go, read the price before you commit.

Every figure in this comparison was taken from the company's own website in October 2026; ZipRecruiter's plan prices were not readable on its plans page when we checked, and on Indeed the sponsored spend is whatever your own account accumulates per interaction.

Which one should you choose?

Stay on ZipRecruiter if…

  • You want one job post pushed to 100+ job sites, with invitations sent to matched candidates handled for you.
  • You hire many different roles, trade and non-trade, and want them all on one general site.
  • Unlimited clicks and applies with no click- or application-based charges suits your volume better than interaction billing.
  • The free trial showed you qualified candidates, and a monthly plan with job slots matches how steadily you hire.

Choose HVAC Hires if…

  • Every role you hire is HVAC or plumbing, and you want listings sitting next to trade jobs only.
  • You hire a few times a year and want a flat $199 per 30-day listing at launch pricing instead of a monthly plan.
  • You want the listing live as soon as checkout completes, with candidates sent to your own application link.
  • You want the option of Featured placement at $399, or a 10- or 25-listing subscription, with no contract.

Choose iHireConstruction if…

  • You want published prices: $369 a month for one slot up to $799 for ten, less on quarterly terms.
  • Your openings span the construction trades rather than HVAC and plumbing alone.
  • You like swapping jobs in and out of slots, with the ability to upgrade, downgrade or cancel anytime.

Choose Indeed if…

  • You want to post for free first and decide on sponsored spend later.
  • You are comfortable being billed per interaction and screening applicants from a general site.
  • Raw applicant volume matters more to you than trade focus.

Frequently asked questions

What is a cheaper alternative to ZipRecruiter for HVAC jobs?

For occasional hiring, a one-time listing avoids a monthly plan.

HVAC Hires posts an HVAC or plumbing job for $199 at launch pricing, for 30 days as a one-time payment; BlueRecruit is free for job seekers and small businesses; Indeed posts many jobs free subject to its usage limits; and ACCA members get a basic CareerPlug account free, or $595-a-year CareerPlug Pro for unlimited postings.

ZipRecruiter's own plan prices were not readable when we checked.

How much does ZipRecruiter cost employers?

New employers get a free trial, and you only pay if you keep the job post active after the trial ends.

After the trial, ZipRecruiter sells monthly subscription plans with customizable job slots and pay-per-day options, plus add-ons such as Resume Database access and job boosting.

The plan prices were not readable on ZipRecruiter's plans page when we checked.

Is ZipRecruiter good for hiring HVAC technicians?

ZipRecruiter says it distributes each job post to 100+ job sites and actively invites qualified candidates to apply, and unlimited clicks and applies are included in its standard rate.

That is wide, general reach.

Whether it beats a trade board depends on the shop: if every opening is HVAC or plumbing and hiring is occasional, a flat-fee trade listing avoids the monthly plan; if you hire many kinds of roles steadily, one subscription with job slots is simpler than running several boards.

Does HVAC Hires require a subscription?

No. A Standard listing is $199 and a Featured listing is $399 at launch pricing, each a one-time payment for a 30-day listing with no auto-renewal and no contract.

Subscriptions exist for contractors who are always hiring — $899 a month for 10 live listings or $1,749 a month for 25 — but they are optional, billed monthly and can be canceled anytime.

What is iHireConstruction?

It is the construction-industry job board of the iHire network.

Employers rent Job Slots — $369 a month for one, $450 for three or $799 for ten, with lower monthly rates on quarterly terms — and swap jobs in and out as hiring changes, with the ability to upgrade, downgrade or cancel anytime.

Jobs are promoted across the iHire network and partner sites such as Google, Indeed and JobGet.

Can I post to Indeed and ZipRecruiter at the same time?

Yes, through ACCA's CareerPlug benefit.

ACCA members get a free basic CareerPlug account, and members can upgrade to CareerPlug Pro at a partnership rate of $595 a year for unlimited postings to job boards including Indeed, ZipRecruiter, Google Jobs and Facebook Jobs, plus personality assessments.

The rate covers the first location; additional locations cost more.
